Watch My favorite Telugu Movie – Fidaa(2017) #188

Fidaa means flattered. After reading the blog, you can decide by yourself if the name goes with the movie plot or not.

After living in Hyderabad for almost 3 years, I finally watched a Telugu movie dubbed in Hindi. I had never watched a Tamil or Telugu movie before college, but my Bengali and Hindi-speaking friends enjoyed many masterpieces. Some of these films were so popular that they were remade in different languages.

The Plot

Bhanumati is a simple, fun-loving girl living in a village. She’s playful and always running around. Sai Pallavi plays Bhanu—unlike typical Bollywood divas, she looks very natural and fits perfectly into her character. Bhanu lives with her elder sister Renuka, their father, and their aunt (their father’s sister). A guy from the US named Raju visits their home for an arranged marriage with Renuka.

Why are people so obsessed with characters returning from the US? What do you think?

Renuka is an educated girl with a master’s degree who respects her elders. She is polite and nice, the ideal girl. Raju is also well-behaved and nice. They didn’t talk much on that day because Raju was nervous talking to a girl, but it was a good start. Raju has no parents; he has two younger brothers – Varun (played by Vanun Tej) and Bijju, whom their mother adopted. To make his final decision, Raju wanted Varun to visit the girl’s house.

Raju already said yes, but he wanted his brother to be there to support him. Everything moved quickly: Raju and his two younger brothers had to return to the US in seven days, and Raju wanted to marry Renuka and take her with them. In India, it’s too little time for a wedding.

Despite all the inconvenience, Raju’s father and aunt agreed to the marriage because Renuka was happy to marry Raju. The movie doesn’t explain how Renuka developed such strong feelings for him; they just got married seven days after meeting for the first time and sailed for the US.

Bhanu and Varun became good friends when their elder sibling got married. Bhanu wanted to tell Varun her plans to stay in her village after marriage on the day they left for the USA, but a misunderstanding occurred.

Varun’s female friend suddenly showed up at the wedding and he was suspiciously preoccupied with her. Bhanu took her as his girlfriend without saying anything. After moving to the US, Varun tried to contact her multiple times but Bhanu didn’t respond. Eventually, he proposed via a WhatsApp message (seriously why? That’s the worst way!). Out of anger, Bhanu replied with a photo of a shoe and no words.

She rejected him because she was upset about the misunderstanding. At this point, Varun wondered about Bhanu. Have you ever felt this for a friend—like you’re too close and both have feelings beyond friendship, but unless the other person says it out loud, you doubt if they feel the same way?

Bhanu hid her emotions and took a picture with her “hot” neighbor. He studied in the US, returned to his village to start a business. Rich, charming, and likely foolish, he was something of a celebrity there. He sent Bhanu a formal marriage proposal and she accepted it.

Bhanu sent Varun pictures of the engagement rituals and his heart broke into a million pieces. Upset with Bhanu’s behavior, Varun pretended to have a girl too. Kids!!

Renuka got pregnant and became very ill. Her father asked Bhanu to go to the US to take care of her sister. As far as I remember, Bhanu was still in college when Renuka got married. I’m not sure what exactly she was doing then—studying, working, or just enjoying life?

One more question: How did the visa part get sorted out for Renuka in 7 days? I have so many questions! Anyway, Bhanu flew to the USA and they all lived in the same house. Bhanu brought happiness, joy and drama.
Finally, Varun realized his feelings for her and surprised her at her village with a marriage proposal and promise to live with her in India. The movie ends with Bhanu running to meet her love of life standing amongst the paddy fields.

Final Note: The movie wasn’t sensational, but it was enjoyable. The village scenery soothed my eyes; the characters were natural and relatable. There’s a song called “Vachinde” with over 200 million views on YouTube—it’s catchy, with a nice video!

Should I watch more Telugu movies from now on? The movies aren’t shown with English subtitles, so that’s a point. I wouldn’t mind watching some Telugu movies dubbed in Hindi or subtitled. There’s a chance you’ll see another Telugu movie review here!
