The French Toast that is born and brought up in India #241

Long back I made a post about 25+ breakfast items that Indians have. Out of that long list, french toast has a special place in my heart. My mum used to make french toast for me for evening snacks but never in breakfast!

After moving out, I had a hard time in getting used to South Indian food. One good thing about Hyderabad is there are abundance of restaurants in different price levels. Over weekends I used to order breakfast from many different places and later I started making quick recipes improvising the dish with the flavors that I liked most.

I had french toast in many places, they tasted more or less the same. One restaurant served it with fruit jam and yogurt, that was a different experience!

If somebody ever asks how I would like my french toast- here is the recipe.

Things you need:

  1. 4 pieces of Bread (Preferably Milk bread)
  2. 2 eggs
  3. 1/2 cup milk
  4. 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  5. 3 tbsp sugar
  6. Vanilla essence
  7. Butter/Oil

Preparation:

Crack two eggs, beat them well. Add milk, sugar, 2 drops of vanilla essence and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

Most of the places I have tried do not use cinnamon powder. I think it really adds an extra bit in the flavor.

Procedure:

  1. Brush the piece of bread with the egg mix on both sides. The mix should coat the bread but not make it a soggy mess.
  2. Heat a pan on medium heat and add a little bit of the butter. Butter enhances the flavors even further but you can use any flavorless oil in place of butter here.
  3. Toast the bread until light brown.

French toast is ready to be served. Serve it maple syrup/nutella/fresh fruits or as it is!
