Long back I made a post about 25+ breakfast items that Indians have. Out of that long list, French toast has a special place in my heart.
My mom used to make French toast for me as an evening snack, but never for breakfast. After moving out, I had a hard time getting used to South Indian food. Luckily, Hyderabad has an abundance of restaurants at different price points. On weekends, I would order breakfast from various places and eventually started making my own quick recipes with my preferred flavors. Even though I tried French toast at many different restaurants, it all tasted more or less the same. However, one restaurant served it with fruit jam and yogurt which was a unique experience! If someone were to ask how I like my French toast prepared, here is the recipe:
Things you need:
- 4 pieces of Bread (Preferably Milk bread)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 3 tbsp sugar
- Vanilla essence
- Butter/Oil
Preparation:
Crack two eggs and beat them well. Then add milk, sugar, 2 drops of vanilla essence, and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Many places don’t use cinnamon powder in their recipe, but I think it really enhances the flavor.
Procedure:
- Brush both sides of the bread with the egg mix, ensuring that it is coated but not soggy.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add a dollop of butter. Butter enhances the flavors, but you can substitute any flavorless oil for it.
- Toast the bread until light brown.
French toast is ready to serve with maple syrup, Nutella, fresh fruits, or as is!
